Emerging at the end of the 19th century, Choro blends infectious Afro-Brazilian rhythms with virtuosic melodies influenced by traditional European music (polka, waltz, schottische...). Typically played in a "roda," choro literally means "to cry," "lamentation," which is reflected in the joyful saudade inherent in these melodies, much like the legendary piece "Carinhoso.
