Shjazz
Dinah, Eartha, Etta & Shjazz — a meeting written in the stars
A convergence of voices that transcend time. Dinah Washington, Eartha Kitt, and Etta James embody a legacy of power, vulnerability, and raw intensity. Three icons who, each in their own way, pushed the boundaries of jazz, blues, and song, reinventing them with an absolutely unique presence.
In this program, Shjazz (Sharon Doelwijt), an artist, singer, and director based in the Netherlands with Surinamese roots, brings these legends together in a contemporary tribute where storytelling, music, and spoken word merge into a single breath. Her work navigates freely between jazz, theater, and poetry, exploring themes of identity, freedom, and the power of voice. This is not imitation, but a dialogue through time, as if these voices still float somewhere between the smoke of cigarettes, the dim lights of clubs, and silence.
Expect an intimate and soulful performance, where sensuality, humor, pain, and freedom continuously resonate with one another. An evening where the female voice is not just sung, but fully embodied.
A meeting where past and present converge in a single breath. A celestial alliance, with a touch of street, soul, and stardust.
