Through this trio project, Italian guitarist Katia Schiavone pays tribute to American guitarist Mary Osborne, a major figure in bebop and a pioneer who has remained in the shadows of jazz history for too long. Active on the New York scene in the 1940s and 1950s, Osborne made her mark with her incisive energy, great freedom of improvisation, and powerful swing, alongside musicians such as Art Tatum, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, and others.
Accompanied by Fabien Marcoz on double bass and Philippe Soirat on drums, Katia Schiavone revisits this heritage through a repertoire inspired by bebop, while placing it within a broader approach to rediscovering female jazz musicians of the past, who are often overlooked despite their essential role in the evolution of this music.
This concert is both a tribute and an act of transmission: giving these voices a hearing, reactivating their creative force and affirming, in the present, a musical and artistic continuity carried forward by the trio.
