A drummer of rare finesse and musicality, Fabrice Moreau—who has performed alongside Marc Copland, Michel Portal, Stéphane Kerecki, Airelle Besson, and Jean-Philippe Viret—has made the almost choreographic grace of his instrumental playing the very foundation of his work as a composer, one of the most original voices in contemporary jazz.
For the past seven years, he has been deeply engaged in an intense collaboration, both human and artistic, with Ricardo Izquierdo on tenor saxophone, Nelson Veras on guitar, Jozef Dumoulin on piano, and Mátyás Szandai on double bass. Following the passing of the latter, Fabrice Moreau chose not to replace him within the ensemble, continuing the project as a quartet.
For this evening’s program, Fabrice Moreau will present his new compositions. While the defining qualities that have shaped his reputation as a drummer—virtuosity and minimalism—remain unmistakable, his talent as a composer is rediscovered here through a lyrical and singular musical language.
