Giovanni Cigui’s Cheewi Beats is a sonic space where groove, freedom, and melody coexist in tension. The project moves between structure and openness, allowing the language of jazz to become a true act of conversation—listening, reacting, and collective construction.
Recorded in 2019 in Amsterdam, Cheewi Beats now continues with a newly recorded album set for release soon.
For this performance in Paris, the project comes to life with major figures from the Paris jazz scene such as Lukmil Pérez and Matteo Bortone, alongside pianist Emanuele Filippi, who is active in New York. A meeting of different paths—Mexico, Paris, New York—reflected in the group’s sound and interplay.
Giovanni Cigui: alto saxophone
Emanuele Filippi: piano
Matteo Bortone: double bass
Lukmil Pérez: drums
