Cipher

Cipher is a new quartet bringing together four of the most active voices in the Norwegian jazz scene. Their self-titled debut album, recorded at Neby Studios in Oslo in June 2025, showcases a group built on deep musical complicity, collective energy, and a shared curiosity for the directions music can take.

The name Cipher reflects the group's central idea: that of a coded language, a form of internal musical code developed over the years spent playing together in various formations. The quartet relies on an intuitive understanding of phrasing, rhythmic placement, and each member's improvisational instincts. This shared vocabulary shapes not only how the music comes to life on stage but also the very writing of the compositions, conceived from the outset with the unique interaction between the group members in mind.
